In March 2009 I began Moments Midwifery in Flagstaff, Arizona where I serve women and their families with great honor and joy.  Since birthing my son I have had a slightly different view of how being a midwife should impact my family.   For almost 6 years I worked very happily in a busy midwifery practice,  thriving on running from prenatal visit to birth to postpartum visit and back again and meeting some amazing families!  I even did this during my son’s first year of life, where he lived in my sling attending uncountable visits and about a dozen births.   After that year, I knew it was time for a change for many reasons, but the importance of raising my son weighted strongly.   I have loved being a busy midwife, though I love my son infinitely more.  So now I choose to live life a little slower-paced (yeah, right with a toddler) and I plan to take only two clients a month which allows me to be both mommy and midwife.

My passion for midwifery began following the birth of my nephew in 1997, though I knew that pregnant women were special from before I can remember.   After graduating from Northern Arizona University with a BS in Chemistry in 2000, I began my apprenticeship with midwives in Prescott, Arizona. During that time period, I taught Chemistry at Yavapai College and attended births at every opportunity. I moved back to Flagstaff in 2003 to complete my studies with Mary Ann and Deana at Womancare Midwifery Center, where I earned my license in 2004 and worked until early 2009.  I am a certified breastfeeding counselor, a reviewer of research proposals for the National College of Midwifery, and a member of both the Midwives Alliance of North America and the Arizona Association of Midwives, where I am currently President and have served also as Secretary.  When I am not catching babies, I enjoy vacations and great Arizona hiking with my husband and two boys, who were brought into the world at home in March 2008  and May 2011 with the help of God into the hands wonderful midwives.

The Midwives Model of Care is based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life processes.

The Midwives Model of Care includes:

  • Monitoring the physical, psychological, and social well-being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle
  • Providing the mother with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support
  • Minimizing technological interventions
  • Identifying and referring women who require obstetrical attention

The application of this woman-centered model of care has been proven to reduce the incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section.
