Looking for a midwife
What are the birth centers in Orlando, FL?
Kaitlin Gauna, LM, CPM
Are you looking for birth centers in Orlando, FL, and the surrounding areas? I've listed birth centers in Orlando and nearby areas like Kissimmee, Davenport, and St. Cloud. This guide gives clear information about their services, locations, and special features.
Is a birth center a right fit for you?
In my experience, many families who are looking for a birth center are also excellent candidates for home birth.
But there are a few reasons a birth center may make more sense:
Location - To be a candidate for a home birth, you must be within 30 minutes of a hospital with a NICU and an OB. Although, if you want a home birth, I've had clients rent an Airbnb closer to a hospital.
Family Support - Sometimes, your immediate family does not support a home birth. A home birth can be a good compromise where the birth is not taking place at a hospital or home.
Financial Options - Most birth centers have a much larger patient volume than a home birth private practice. Therefore, they're much more likely to be in network with your insurance or accept Medicaid. The drawback with this patient volume is that you won't know who will attend your birth, like a hospital.
As a side note, many families assume that a birth center is better equipped to handle emergent situations. This assumption is incorrect. Home birth midwives bring the same equipment to your home that a birth center offers. Here's a video of the equipment I get to the birth - I warn you, it's a lot!
