Step-by-Step Guide of our Home Birth Services

Searching for a home birth midwife in Orlando who will guide you with skill and compassion? Moments Midwifery supports families across Central Florida with personalized prenatal, birth, and postpartum care—whether you’re planning a home or water birth. We'll break it down into a step-by-step process.

Phone Consultation

Let's see if we're a good match. Trust is essential for a safe and beautiful birth experience.

Prenatal Appointments

If you choose us as your midwife, you will be scheduled for routine prenatal appointments where we take the time to answer all your questions.

Routine labwork will be done during your appointments. No need to go to a LabCorp or Quest location.

We do all the same standard tests that an OBGYN would perform.

In-Home Ultrasounds

A sonographer will come to your house to perform your ultrasounds from the comfort of your couch.

If you're outside our service area, we will schedule you for an ultrasound at an office location.

Home Birth

Our midwife and the supporting birth team come to your home when you're ready to have them. If you're opting in for a water birth, we will bring a birth pool. Once your baby is here, we will stay until you and baby are stable and comfortable.

If you're not sure about a home birth but want midwife-led visits, explore our prenatal care midwife services.

Postnatal Appointments

You will also have follow-up appointments to follow up on your health, monitor any healing, and see how you and baby are doing.

Prenatal Assessment

Your birth plan starts with a thorough prenatal assessment. Planned home birth is reserved for low-risk pregnancies. Licensed midwives are trained to manage many conditions. If a condition arises that is outside our scope, we will discuss options such as consulting with a high-risk obstetrician. Many times we are able to continue with a planned home birth. Other times, we will refer you to a high-risk specialist. It will depend on your medical history, health, and risk factors.

Hospital and Transfer Protocol

To ensure safety, we strive to take on clients that are within 30 minutes of ambulance driving distance to a hospital with a NICU. With this guideline, most areas in greater Orlando qualify.

When a transfer becomes necessary—whether due to medical concerns, or parental preference—we follow a clear, practiced procedure:

  1. Contact your chosen hospital confirm readiness and send your medical records.

  2. Call EMS (if needed)

  3. If you've been admitted into labor, we'll go to the hospital with you through delivery and until you're stable.

Our goal is to ensure that you feel supported in the decisions you're making for you and your family. We will be happy to explain the risks and benefits of the medical decisions you will have to make.
