Prenatal-Only Care

Prenatal-Only Care

Feel the difference in personalized midwifery care

With this only prenatal care, you can get the care, attention, and peace of mind of a midwife, and when you're ready, you can go to the hospital to deliver your baby. You also receive additional post-partum care to follow up on you and the baby.

This might be a good service for you if:

  • You're not comfortable with a home birth, or you don't have a stable location.

  • You can't afford a home birth, and you need to rely on your health insurance.

  • You're not looking forward to having your care through an OB because you feel rushed or helpless because you don't understand why you have to make certain decisions.

  • You have health risk factors that disqualify you from a home birth

If you haven't received midwifery care, don't worry. We'll explain how it works.

  1. Prenal Phase (Before the baby is born)

Prenatal visits are scheduled for up to an hour, so there is plenty of time to answer questions without rushing. We aim for you to feel safe and comfortable with us and stay until your concerns have been addressed. Also, there is only one midwife, so there is never a need to repeat information consistently.

Routine prenatal care takes place in a safe and comfortable environment. Children and family members are welcomed and encouraged to come and take an active part in the pregnancy during your prenatal care.

Prenatal care can begin as soon as you know you are pregnant. Visits are scheduled every four weeks until your 28th week of pregnancy, every two weeks until your 36th week, and then weekly until birth.

Each visit includes:

  • No rush appointments - plenty of time to answer your questions

  • Education & Counseling

  • Weight, Blood pressure, Urine dip (checking for protein and glucose)

  • Uterine size/fundal height

  • Fetal heart rate, activity, & position (late pregnancy)

  • Overall assessment of your physical & emotional well-being

  1. Labor and Delivery (Hospital)

During your prenatal care, we will discuss your birthing goals and provide you with our own hospital recommendations based on your location and desires. We will discuss your options for going into the hospital with spontaneous labor, scheduling an induction, or scheduling a C-section.

You will be guided through when to register at the hospital, and we will fax the hospital a complete set of your prenatal records.

Regarding the big moment, you will go directly to the hospital of your choice. Care will be provided by the hospitalists (obstetricians or nurse midwives).

  1. Postpartum (After the baby is born)

Once you have been discharged from the hospital, we will continue to perform follow-up care.

Postpartum visits are done as scheduled:

  • Two to three weeks after the birth (in office)

  • Six to eight weeks after the birth (in office)

During these visits, we will:

  • Examine your vitals, sutures, or C-section incision (if indicated),

  • Counsel on breastfeeding (if you choose) and overall emotional well-being.

  • Complete any final labs.

  • Discuss postpartum mood disorders and possible ways to prevent or navigate them.
